Hip Hop Is..? Interactive Exhibition and Community Engagement Project Fayanne Hayes, Curator A Collaboration with The Fulton Ross Fund for Visual Artists, State College of Florida’s African American Student Union and The Greater Newtown Community Redevelopment Corporation and Ecological Youth Build Group, North Sarasota Public Library and Art Center Sarasota Through art, music, photography, community dialogue and hands-on participation this exhibition and related programming examined the contemporary culture of Hip Hop and featured artworks by five Florida artists who explored related themes in their work. Submissions of photographs by 35 College students, music selections for audio / headset components and thoughts and quotes transferred to wall graphics, were submitted by community members. A large plexiglas, audience participation 'grafitti wall'  was central to the installation. Visitors were invited to respond and leave their personal marks and remarks. The project included collaborations with the State College of Florida’s African American Student Union, The Greater Newtown Community Redevelopment Corporation Ecological Youth Build group, and distinguished community leaders.
